A Zen-ish title for this Monday morning, but today’s soundtrack comes with a cool story.
You wouldn’t know it from the awkward mustaches on these large golden fish, but koi have their own legend – The Waterfall Legend.
It’s an ancient story about a school of koi swimming upstream in the Yellow River in China. They swam hard and got stronger as they fought against the currents. When they reached a waterfall at the end of the river, many of them were like, “Damn it to hell!” and turned back, letting the river carry them back downstream.
But, some of them refused to give up. They leaped out of the water and tried to reach the top of the waterfall. Some local demons, wondering what all the ruckus was about, stood on the river bank mocking the koi. And, because they’re demons, they made the waterfall even higher (the jerks).
After a hundred years of jumping (!), one koi finally made it to the top of the waterfall. As it turns out, the gods were also keeping an eye on the koi, and because of its perseverance and determination, they turned this koi into a golden dragon, the ultimate image of power and strength.
May this week’s offering encourage you to keep jumping, ignore the demons and become the golden dragon you’re meant to be.
